I went back and forth for 20 minutes, debating whether to write this now or watch a C-drama.
Guess which one I chose? The Chinese drama duh.
I want to write this post in clear, deep pidgin, but I suspect I now have subscribers who aren’t Nigerian and may not understand our type of English, based on some of the emails I receive. So, I won’t be doing that.
In the spirit of Kendrick Lamar’s level of hating, I’m here to pour out some negative energy on a certain group of people. Since the beginning of the year, it feels like there has been a shift in the universe in terms of violence and unrest between groups and individuals. The universe is finally exposing all the evil people—you can see it happening on the internet, with the Wiz and David feud, and Kendrick and Drake. So, if by any chance you are feeling uneasy in your chest, it means you’re a bad person, and they will soon expose your ass.
I have a list of people that I think the universe should deal with:
My estate people, for all the charges they keep piling on me and for making my AEDC meter stop working, now claiming I have to buy a new one.
The suya man who sold me spoiled ram meat.
The misogynistic Bolt driver.
The Uber driver who charged me 4500 for a trip that shouldn’t have been more than 2000 (we blame the fuel scarcity)
Drake and Kendrick again, for disturbing my peace with whatever is going on between them.
Everyone who voted in this government (both those who voted and those who supported from afar).
Now, you see the ones on the final list? There is a particular thunder reserved for them alone.
In the months or weeks before the election, there were arguments and tribal wars both online and offline. It was a bit shocking, especially coming from a generation that claims to be better than the older generation. But we’re not going to talk about that madness today.
When asked their reason for supporting their candidates or a party that hadn’t worked for eight years, opposition party supporters said, “Everyone has the right to support who they want to support.” Yeah, I agree with that, but that excuse is only valid if the party has shown signs of working to change the country in any way.
There was plenty of evidence that the party in power never had the people's best interests at heart. Shortly before the election, Nigerians were using naira to buy naira (which was insane btw). That same year, there were reports of unrest, and kidnappings were at an all-time high. Under that same government, we had the EndSARS protests, repeated fuel scarcity, the falling naira, and so on.
So, how and why?
We are all seeing the results of their decision, and it’s so painful because that foolish decision is now affecting all of us.
There is no reason why we should be voting for anyone based on “he is my tribal person.” That is the dumbest reason. The main reason you should vote for anyone should be their competency. How is he going to change Nigeria? What are his plans for making this country a better place? All the excuses and reasons we got were not enough to vote him in. Idk man.
It’s also very logical and normal to go for a different candidate and a different party if the party in power hasn’t done anything remarkable in the last 4-8 years. If we’re not satisfied with his work, we vote him out and keep trying. Power is for the people, right? It is our right to vote for anyone we believe can work for us, not because he speaks the same language as you and I do.
What pride do you get from the fact that your tribal person is the president of the country? How does it affect you personally or affect others?
I’m being too political now, forgetting my reason for writing this, which is to spread hate.
I’ve had to cut down on a lot of cravings because of the choices you made. Everything in the market has tripled because of the choices you made. The cost of living has skyrocketed because of the choices you made.
(Felt like I was rapping for a minute)
I’m not exaggerating when I say I go to the market, and there’s this urge to burst into tears on my way back because everything has become so expensive. They call it inflation; I call it wickedness. Wickedness because the people in power aren’t feeling what we are feeling. If I, as someone who can manage to eat three square meals, am struggling to afford my basic needs, I can’t imagine what those with menial jobs are going through. How are they surviving?
A party that doesn’t care about the people is who some of you voted in for a second term… and you think you will make heaven? Not on my watch.
I hate all of you, and I’m saying this from the deepest part of my heart.
The crazy thing is, with all the suffering going on, if we were to have a re-run of the elections, you wereys would still vote him in.
No sense, no redemption.
Wrote this from a place of anger because a bag of basmati rice went from 15k to 35k in few months. One roasted corn is now 300 naira, it was 50 naira back in my days btw… I can’t afford my cravings anymore💔
If you feel offended by this post, maybe, check yourself for a second.
(I was supposed to drop this yesterday, but I was a bit preoccupied, sorry).
